Tour of Liberty

The Tour of Liberty is one of the steps in the Restartnaija process. It involves the movement of the Restartnaija group through all the various senatorial districts in Nigeria. People from the various communities in every senatorial district will have one day to showcase their socio-industrial potentials in preparation for the Restart National Conference. This Tour of Liberty is aimed to inspire the people of the communities in Nigeria to believe in their own capacity to develop and prosper from the cultural, human and natural resources in their environment, and to prepare to establish the tripod stand of freedom for all communities at the Restart National Conference.

The Restart National Conference aims to propose a reformed Constitution of Intercultural Liberty with 3 targets:

  1. Adopt the ideology of Intercultural Liberty as the basis and purpose of Nigerian (and African) unity over the colonial ideology that has been used to sustain the currently imposed and hostile nationhood.
  2. End the colonial land-expropriation law, and both the postcolonial Land-Use-Act and Nigerian Mineral and Mining Act by recognizing the various communities’ and individual’s lands as their private property, along with their right to protect their lives and property. Then, set reasonable deadlines for the enactment (like 1-3 years for general land retrieval, and 4-6 years for Niger-Delta onshore oil property).
  3. Form the cultural destiny contest (as triennial or quadrennial contests for various communities to display their various products, services, groomed environments and acted/depicted ways of life) starting in Nigeria, and to later extend to the rest of Africa. Then, set a date for the first edition of the cultural destiny contest.

This project began at the University of Ibadan in 2016 as a social research called Restartnaija, by a group of young scholars, and has now grown into a group of Nigerians from all states to apply the research result of Intercultural Liberty in Nigeria. To achieve the 3 reform targets above, the group has set out 4 tasks as follows:

  1. Convention: May: Abuja, Onitsha, Lagos, Kaduna, Bauchi, Ibadan and Akwa-Ibom
  2. Tour of Liberty: movement to all the senatorial districts in Nigeria for people of the different communities to showcase their socio-industrial potentials in a chosen location in their district. November – March
  3. Intra-district conference: for delegates of various communities in each senatorial district to discuss their stand on the new ideology and to choose a delegate to represent them in the Restart National Conference. Nov – Dec.
  4. Restart National Conference: for the delegates of the various senatorial districts to adopt and ratify the new Constitution of Intercultural Liberty as the basis of a new, consented and progressive nationhood. Dec-Jan 2026.

Since Restartnaija began and has been domiciled in Ibadan, it is most appropriate that the Tour starts of from Oyo. This means that the first state to visit will be Osun state.
