Almighty God, you anointed Jesus Christ to bring liberty to captives, and called his apostles to follow in this liberating mission. We commit the apostolic successors of Christ’s mission in Nigeria into your hands, that you fill them with the spirit of courage for them to manifest that liberating mission of Christ in our ideologically and structurally malformed and plundered society in Nigeria (and Africa).
Lord, you gave your servant, Bishop Karol Wojtyla, the aura and spirit of sanctity, clarity, liberty and boldness to confront and defeat the spirit of communist bondage in Europe with the ideals of individual liberty; and in the process, raised him to become Pope Johnpaul II. We pray that you grant our Nigerian Catholic Bishops that spirit of sanctity, clarity, liberty and boldness to confront the reigning spirit of neocolonial bondage in Nigeria (and Africa) with the ideals of intercultural liberty, which is the belief that:
“there is something great in every community and culture, and so, they all deserve the liberty to own, modify and use their cultural, human and natural resources to prosper and manifest their greatness to their communities, nation, continent and the world. And that the four institutions of public regulation, which are government, religion, academia and mass media, are only made to support these communities and their members to manifest their greatness”.
We pray that Nigerian Catholic bishops will boldly inspire members of their communities and dioceses to look inwards, imbibe these ideals and fully support in Nigeria’s liberation process, starting with the Restart National Conference, so that Nigerians (and Africans) can join in the true freedom and worship of your divine love like other children of God around the world. We ask this through Christ our Lord, Amen.
